How to Properly Add Google AdSense to Your WordPress Site
Google AdSense is one of the most widely used methods of monetizing your website nowadays. It enables you to automatically sell advertising space on your website to advertisers and receive payment.
AdSense is one of the most straightforward methods of earning money online through your website. The steps of installing Google AdSense in WordPress, as well as some best practices and recommendations to help you maximize your revenue, will be covered in this post.
What is Google AdSense?
Using Google AdSense, bloggers and website owners can earn money by displaying text, image, video, and other interactive advertisements on their websites. Google AdSense is a Google-run advertising network that allows bloggers and website owners to earn money by showing text, image, video, and other interactive advertisements on their websites. These advertisements are particularly relevant since they are targeted based on the content and audience of the website. Because you don’t have to communicate with advertisers or worry about collecting money, Google AdSense is a hassle-free advertising program.
They will receive the payment, deduct their administration charge, and then deliver the remaining funds to you in your account.
The amount of money collected each click varies depending on a number of different criteria.

Getting Started with AdSense
The first thing you must do is create a Google AdSense account for your business. If you already have a Gmail account, you may sign up with your current account information. Once you’ve submitted your application, you’ll have to wait for it to be reviewed by the Google AdSense team before continuing. Some publishers may require as little as a few hours or as much as a few weeks to complete this process. Once it has been accepted, you will be able to enter into your AdSense account and retrieve your ad code.
Recently, Google AdSense introduced auto advertisements, which allow you to put a single piece of code and Google will automatically determine when, where, and how many ads to display on each page of your website.
We’ll go over both ways with you.
Once you have begun earning, you may begin experimenting with auto-ads in order to compare them for yourself.
1. Manually Place Google AdSense Ad Code in WordPress
You’ll begin by selecting the Ads menu from the left-hand column and then clicking on the ‘By ad unit’ tab to the right. From here, you must select ‘Create New Ad’ from the drop-down menu. You will be prompted to select a specific ad kind. Display advertisements, in-feed ads, and in-article ads are all options you may choose from when creating a campaign. If you’re not sure where to begin, start with the display advertisements. Following that, you must give this ad unit a name and pick the size and kind of the advertisement.
Despite the fact that Google offers a broad selection of ad sizes, there are several sizes that are mentioned under suggested since they are the most commonly used by marketers.
We recommend that you use responsive advertisements since they operate on all devices and screen sizes.
AdSense will now produce the ad code for you on its own initiative.
If your website has a Google AMP version, you may copy the code for your AMP pages as well as the code for your regular pages. Simply copy and paste your advertisement code into a basic text editor such as Notepad or TextEdit. It will be required in the following step.
Adding Google AdSense in WordPress
You must first decide where you want the advertisement to appear on your website. Ads are most frequently shown in the sidebar of a website. With the help of WordPress widgets, you may display Google Adsense on your sidebar. You may do this by going to theAppearance » Widgets page in your WordPress administration area. Next, drag and drop the ‘Custom HTML’ widget into the relevant widget area, and then paste your Google AdSense code into the widget area as instructed. We propose that you look at the AdSanityWordPress plugin for more placement control and tracking capabilities.
2. Add Auto-Ads AdSense Code in WordPress
Individual advertisements for different sections of your website take a significant amount of effort to create. The majority of newcomers have difficulty determining the most effective spots to place advertisements on their websites. Google has launched auto-ads in order to address this issue. The result is that you just need to upload one code snippet to your website, and Google AdSense will figure out the highest earning placement, ad-size, and ad kind on your behalf. It is a downside of using this strategy because you have less control over where your advertisements appear on your website.
To begin, log into your Google AdSense account and select the Ads option from the navigation bar.
A piece of code containing your publisher ID will be generated and shown on the screen by AdSense at this point.
Adding AdSense Auto-Ads Code in WordPress
The auto-ads code makes use of a single code snippet to produce advertisements that appear throughout your WordPress website. This implies that you must include the code on all of the sites where you want the advertisement to appear. One method of accomplishing this is to include the code in the header.php file of your WordPress theme. The downside of this strategy, on the other hand, is that your ad code will be lost if you update your theme or alter your design. The most effective approach to include any site-wide code into your website is through the use of a plugin such as Insert Headers and Footers.
For further information, please refer to our step-by-step instructions on how to install a WordPress plugin (included).
Your Google AdSense code should now be pasted into the header portion of the page.
The ad code will now be shown on all pages of your website as a result of the plugin.

Consider monetizing your website with Google Adsense if you want to develop a passive income stream, earn money while you sleep, and enjoy the online lifestyle. For more information, visit Google Adsense. Known as the world’s most popular advertising network, Google Adsense provides publishers, content producers, and website owners with the opportunity to earn money by presenting relevant advertisements to their visitors.
Don’t be concerned if you don’t understand how to accomplish it.
Let’s get started.
Why Adding Google Adsense To Your WordPress Site is Worth It
Every online marketer’s ambition is to generate consistent, scalable, and dependable passive revenue. Google Adsense helps to make it a possibility. Adsense, which was launched in 2003, is the world’s most popular advertising network, with more than 3 million active websites using it to sell their content. When it was launched, it was one of the first advertising networks to compensate publishers for showing advertisements on their websites. The BBC, The New York Times, Business Insider, and a slew of other major brands and publications continue to utilize it nearly two decades after it was first introduced.
Add Google Adsense to your WordPress blog and you’ll be able to immediately monetise your content while also becoming a member of the rapidly expanding Google publisher community. Here are seven of the most important features of Adsense that help to make it such a successful advertising platform.
Easy To Get Started
The procedure of getting started with Google Adsense is straightforward. As long as you already have a Google account, you may sign up for Google Adsense, copy the Adsense code to your website, and begin earning money as soon as your website receives approval from the Google Adsense staff. Unless your site does not meet with Google’s rules, the entire procedure normally takes between 24-48 hours to finish, on average.
Strict Quality Control
Because Google Adsense maintains a high level of value for advertisers and brands, the program has retained its popularity among advertisers and brands. You must post original, accurate, and high-quality material on your website in order to be approved as an Adsense publisher. Moderators at Google Adsense are swift in their rejection of low-quality sites and any publishers operating in categories such as gambling and erotica.
Highly Relevant Ads
When Adsense was launched, it displayed advertisements depending on the content of a web page. However, over time, it has grown into an intelligent advertising platform that shows advertisements based on the interests and search habits of visitors. As a result, your visitors are considerably more likely to click on your advertisements, so increasing your revenue.
Major Advertisers Onboard
When Adsense was launched, it displayed advertisements depending on the content of a page. This has since changed. In recent years, however, it has grown into an intelligent advertising platform, which presents advertisements tailored to the interests and search habits of visitors. This increases your visitors’ likelihood of clicking on your advertisements, hence increasing your revenue.
Support For Diverse Niches
Because of Google Adsense’s apparently limitless pool of advertising, publishers from any field (with the exception of porn and gambling) may earn money from their websites.
Attractive Pay Per Click
As an Adsense publisher, you may earn anywhere from $0.2 to $15 per click depending on your location. However, the majority of niches pay between $1 and $3 per click.
The amount of money you may earn from Google Adsense is virtually limitless after you’ve integrated it into your website. If you have a lot of material to publish and a lot of visitors to your site, the more money you can generate from clicks on Google Adsense units on your site, the better off you will be.
How Google Adsense Works
Google is essentially a marketing and advertising organization. Google products such as search, maps, YouTube, Chrome, Hangouts, and all other Google products are used to collect information on its users. With so much consumer data at its disposal, Google is an excellent partner for companies and advertisers trying to reach their target audiences. Google Adsense is designed to function in conjunction with Google Ads. Creating advertising campaigns and selecting a target demographic are two of the many things that advertisers, brands, and enterprises do with Google Ads.
The adverts that are displayed on websites and platforms that have registered with Google Adsense are the result of an advertising campaign managed by an advertiser.
When it comes to Adsense, Google uses the same strategy, and it compensates bloggers, publishers, and website owners depending on the number of ad clicks generated by their content.
Naturally, publishers in such categories receive more money per click from Adsense than those in other niches.
Insurance, mortgage, legal services, SaaS, loans, and other financial services are among the top paid Adsense themes. In fact, Google Adsense’s whole business strategy is based on this concept.
The Investment Needed To Add Google Adsense To WordPress
What steps are required to integrate Google Adsense into your WordPress website? As a starting point, you’ll need access to your WordPress site’s administration page in order to copy the Adsense code and paste it there. You’ll also need an authorized Adsense account, which you can link to your site and utilize to build multiple ad units for your content, among other things. It is not necessary to make any financial commitment in order to integrate Adsense with your WordPress site, as Adsense is a free service to use.
Otherwise, you might engage a freelancer to complete the task for you.
- Manually copy and paste the Adsense code into your website
- And Add the Adsense code to your website using a WordPress plugin. Make use of auto-ads
I’ll go through each of these strategies in further detail in the next section.
4 Easy Steps To Add Google Adsense To Your WordPress Site
Google Adsense integration with your WordPress blog is a straightforward three-step process. Allow me to go over each step in further detail.
Step 1: Create An Adsense Account
As a Gmail user, you already have a Google Adsense account, which you may use to make money. If you do not already have a Google account, you will first need to create one. To sign up for Google Adsense, complete the procedures outlined in the following paragraphs. Go to the Google Adsense website to learn more. For your website, click Get Started in the upper right corner to be sent to the account registration page. Enter the URL of your website as well as your email address. Save the file and then proceed.
Create an account by clicking on the Create Account button.
Select your account type (individual), provide your full name, address, and phone number, and then clickSubmit to finish the account setup.
Step 2: Add Your Site To Google Adsense
It is necessary to submit the website on which you wish to show advertisements for approval by Google Adsense at this point in the process. Here’s how you go about it: Sites may be found on the side menu of your Adsense account. On the following page, select Add Site from the drop-down menu. Now enter the URL of the website where you wish to have advertisements displayed. Save the file and then proceed. On the next screen, copy the Adsense tracking code that is specific to your site. Before you can request a review, you must first copy the Adsense code and paste it into your WordPress website.
Step 3: Add Google Adsense Code To Your Site
There are several approaches of copying and pasting the Adsense code into your WordPress site. Let me describe each of them in turn.
Using A Plugin To Add Google Adsense
When it comes to adding the Adsense code to your WordPress site, employing a plugin is the safest route to go. For the simple reason that using this way, your code will not be changed even if you change the theme of your website. There are a variety of plugins available for this purpose, but we’ll show using Advanced Ads. Advanced Ads may be downloaded and installed on your WordPress website (read this guide to learn how to install a WordPress plugin). Navigate to Advanced Ads Settings from the WordPress site’s administration area.
- Connect to Adsense will appear on the next screen, and this will begin the process of linking your Adsense account to your WordPress site.
- To grant permission, select Allow from the drop-down menu.
- This time, however, you will be taken to the plugin’s dashboard page, which will contain all of the information from your Google Adsense account.
- To complete the configuration, clicksave settings.
- There is no need to manually alter the code.
- The confirmation message from Google Adsense should appear if you have entered the code correctly.
Your account has been successfully submitted for review. Thank you for your cooperation. It is likely that you will receive an acceptance notice in the near future (unless your site is brand new or does not completely comply with Adsense regulations).
Manually Adding Google Adsense
You may also manually add the Google Adsense code to your website by copying and pasting it into the source code of your website. However, we do not encourage using this technique because the majority of customers just copy and paste the code into their website’s header.php file, as seen below. If you have no intention of changing the theme of your website, there is nothing wrong with using this strategy. However, if you decide to change your theme, you’ll have to re-enter the code. There is, however, a fix for this problem.
- Including Code in the Header of Your Website You must copy and paste your Google Adsense code into any page where you wish to show advertisements.
- However, rather than manually altering header.php, we propose that you make use of a plugin called Header and Footer Scripts.
- Log in to the administration area of your WordPress site.
- Go to Settings Header and Footer Scripts in your WordPress dashboard to make the changes.
- – Select Save Settings from the drop-down menu.
- Now, return to your Adsense account and submit your website for inspection there as well.
- Here’s how you go about it.
- Widgets may be found under Appearance Widgets.
- In the Custom HTML text box, paste the Adsense code you want to use.
- You have successfully placed the Adsense code to the sidebar of your website.
Step 4: Create Ad Units For Your WordPress Site
After your site has been approved by Google Adsense, you may begin incorporating various forms of advertisements into your content. Create adverts using Adsense and place them anywhere on your website using a variety of choices available through the program. The following is the procedure for establishing an advertisement for your WordPress website. Log in to your Google Adsense account if you have one. Ads may be found on the homepage by clickingAds. Navigate to theByad unittab under the Ads section.
To access the ad creation page, select Display advertising from the drop-down menu.
Copy and paste this code anywhere on your website where you want the advertisement to appear.
After you copy and paste the code onto your website, it may take a few minutes for the advertisement to display. You may examine the statistics for your ad unit and make changes to its design by visiting the Ads area of your Google Adsense account.
As I’ve demonstrated in this post, integrating Google Adsense into your WordPress website is a really straightforward procedure. However, in order to enhance your Adsense revenue, you must regularly optimize your advertising by assessing the effectiveness of individual ad units and experimenting with alternative ad kinds and placements on your site, among other things. Once you’ve identified the ad position and kind that is most effective for your site, you should implement it throughout all of your site’s pages and eliminate any unneeded ad units.

However, in order to enhance your Adsense revenue, you must regularly optimize your advertising by assessing the effectiveness of individual ad units and experimenting with alternative ad kinds and placements on your website, among other things. What is Google AdSense?
Google AdSenseis a prominent advertising network operated by Google that enables you to quickly include Google commercials on your website in order to earn money from it. It is a cost-per-click (CPC) scheme in which you will be compensated for each click that consumers make on the advertisements on your website. Google AdSense is the simplest method of monetizing your website; all you have to do is place a little code snippet on your site, and Google will take care of the rest for you. In terms of WordPress analytics plugins, MonsterInsights is the greatest option.
To begin, AdSense spiders will crawl your site to determine the subject matter of your site’s content, and then they will place similar advertisements in the ad blocks on your site.
Because you do not have to deal with advertisements, the procedure of receiving cash is simple and straightforward.
As a management fee, Google retains a tiny portion of the money earned by the company.
Step 1: Create a Google AdSense Account and Connect It with WordPress
In order to use Google AdSense, you must first create an account on the Google AdSense website by visiting the Google AdSense website. To begin the registration process, click on theSign Up Nowbutton. On the following page, you’ll be asked to enter the URL of your website as well as your email address. Then, by picking your chosen choice and clicking theSave and Continuebutton, you may decide whether or not you wish to get useful AdSense information to your email address. Following that, you’ll need to select your home country and check theTerms and Conditionsbox in order to continue.
If you can view the Google AdSense homepage, this indicates that you have successfully setup your AdSense account. The next step is to verify your identity and activate your account. You’ll discover two actions on your AdSense homepage that you must perform in order to activate your AdSense account:

How to Add Google AdSense Ads to WordPress (With and Without a Plugin)
To begin earning money with Google AdSense, you must first include the AdSense advertisements into your website. When it comes to creating WordPress websites or blogs, there are two methods that are highly suggested. One is through the use of the official Google AdSense plugin, and the other is through the implementation of a few easy adjustments to your WordPress configuration (my preferred way). Let’s take a closer look at each of these two approaches.
How to add Google Adsense Ads to my WordPress Website? (with a Plugin)
For WordPress users, the Google AdSense team has developed a plugin that makes it easier for them to integrate AdSense into their websites. Added in March of 2017: Because Google has indicated that the AdSense Plugin will be discontinued, it is preferable to skip forward to the section on manually installing AdSense to your website. You may obtain and install the plugin from the WordPress repository, which can be found at this location. Instructions on how to configure the plugin may be found here in its entirety.
The fact that you have greater control over where the code appears and that you do not have to worry about making modifications to your theme or templates is one of the reasons why I choose to manually add AdSense advertisements to my websites, despite the fact that the plugin is simple to use.
In the event of manually adding the code to your theme (as described below), it is just a question of copying and pasting the code from one theme to another.
Add AdSense Ads by Editing your WordPress Files (Without a Plugin)
The manual approach is my favourite method of adding AdSense to WordPress. Changing the code for one website is time-consuming, but after you’ve done it for one website, you can easily reuse the code for other websites. AdSense advertisements can be shown in the following locations on a standard WordPress blog:
- In the sidebar (widget)
- At the top of the page (below the header)
- Or anywhere else on the page. Between your blog entries (for example, after the 2nd paragraph)
- In the middle of your blog posts
- Immediately underneath your blog articles
How to include Google AdSense advertisements in a widget AdSense advertisements may be added in this situation by simply copying and pasting the code given by AdSense into a ‘text widget’ and placing it in the proper widget location. The measures to be taken are as follows:
- Log into your AdSense account and select ‘Ad Units’ from the drop-down menu under the ‘My Ads’ heading. Select ‘TextDisplay Ads’ from the drop-down menu after clicking on the ‘+New Ad Unit’ button. To create an advertisement unit, provide a name for it in the text box provided, choose ‘Responsive’ from the Ad Size drop-down menu, and then click on ‘Save and obtain code
Use a name that appropriately defines the ad kind and position, as a suggestion. As an example, ‘Home Page, Top Banner, Responsive’ may be written. Copy the Adsense ad code that was supplied to you. Copy the code and paste it into aText Widget, then drag it to the proper Widget Area. You may now SAVE the widget, and AdSense will begin to appear on your website within a few minutes of saving it. You may use the exact same process every time you wish to add Adsense to any widget on your WordPress site by following the steps above.
Take note that you may surround the Adsense code in an adiv and set the width to 100 percent while also including additional stylistic features to make the adverts appear professional (see the example above). An example of Adsense ads in the sidebar may be found here.
How to Add AdSense to WordPress Without a Plugin?
Please note that the examples in this section are based on the Genesis Framework. It is necessary to adjust the hook given in the ADD ACTION line (first section of code) to match the hooks accessible in the core WordPress installation if you are not using a genesis child theme (which is not the case by default). The entire list of WordPress Actions may be seen here. It is very important that you make a backup of your functions.php file before modifying it. If you make a mistake in your functions.php file, your WordPress website will not load properly.
How to Add AdSense Ads at the top of a page (below the header)
Your functions.php file will need to have the following code added to it if you want AdSense to show at the top of your blog entries. Keep in mind that you must first complete the steps outlined above to establish a new AD Unit inside your AdSense account before proceeding to the next stage. Using an FTP client, navigate to the functions.php file (which may be found at:/wp-content/themes/yourtheme/functions.php) and save it. Edit the file and insert the code provided below. adding an action at the beginning of the content, namely “genesis before content,” and a function called “header ad” () If (is page() ||
is search()) then the condition is met.
You’ll see that I modified the AdSense code to require that the adverts show at a resolution of 300250 when viewed on mobile (below 420px resolution).
Add AdSense After the 2nd stParagraph Within Blog Posts
If we consider the following scenario: you want adverts to show after the second paragraph in all of your blog entries. You may achieve this by including the following code in your functions.php file:/ADD ADSENSE AFTER 2ND PARAGRAPH/ADD ADSENSE AFTER 3RD PARAGRAPH/ADD ADSENSE AFTER 4TH PARAGRAPH/ADD ADSENSE AFTER 5TH PARAGRAPH/ADD ADSENSE AFTER 6TH PARAGRAPH/ADD ADSENSE AFTER 7TH PARAGRAPH/ADD ADSENSE add filter(‘the content’, ‘prefix insert inpost ads’); function prefix insert inpost ads($content); add filter(‘the content’, ‘prefix insert inpost ads’); add filter(‘the content’, ‘prefix insert inpost ads’); ‘div class=”googleadsrectangle” style type=”text/css”.adslot [email protected] (max-width:420px)’ /style script async src=”/pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js”/script!
– SAMPLE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION – class=ins class=ins class=ins class= “google advertisements adslot 1″ style=”display:inline-block” ” data-ad-client=”ca-pub-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX” data-ad-slot=”XXXXXXXXX” /ins script(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle ||) /ins script(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle ||).
);if (is single()!
- In the$ad codevariable, you should copy and paste the code provided by AdSense, and then replace it with the code displayed in bold. If you want the adverts to show after the first paragraph, or in any other location, simply modify the number 2 in the following line to the desired value: if $ad code = 2, then return prefix insert after paragraph($ad code, 2)
After the second paragraph, here is an example of a full-width AdSense ad unit that you may customize.
Add AdSense Ads Below WordPress Posts
It’s as simple as using the same logic as the “Top of Posts” hook but changing the hook such that the advertisements display below the entries to add AdSense to your blog posts. The code template to be used is as follows: add action(‘genesis after entry content’, ‘google bottom ads’); genesis after entry content function google bottom ads() If (is single()) is true, then ?div class=”googleadsrectanglebottom”>?div class=”googleadsrectanglebottom”> style type= adobe css “style=”display:inline-block” class=”adsbygoogle cs-posts-bottom-resp” style=”display:inline-block” stylescript async src=”/pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js”/script!- xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx “data-ad-client=”ca-pub-XXXXXXXXXXXX” data-ad-slot=”XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Here’s an example of an AdSense ad unit that’s been placed beneath a blog post:
If you find the following code difficult to understand, choose the first option and use the official Google AdSense plugin to display advertisements on your WordPress site instead. It is simpler to use and does not need the changing of your website’s files. If you are confident in your ability to update yourfunctions.phpfile, you may utilize the code templates provided above to get greater control over your advertisements. In either case, it’s always a good idea to employ RESPONSIVE AD UNITS to ensure that your advertisements display correctly on both your desktop and mobile websites.
