Thisidattribute is the HTML anchor for the element. If you’re using the Gutenberg/Block editor, the interface will appear something like the one seen on the right. In this interface, you’ll see that this label is referred to as a “HTML anchor.” If you look at the underlying HTML, it will seem like anid. You may build a new Custom Link in the Menu area of eitherwp-admin or the Customizer and then add it to your navigation menu. Make sure that the Custom Link refers to the page on which the content is located, plus any additional characters, as well as the value of the element’s sidattribute—for example, your menu changes—and test the link from a few different sites to see that it works

That’s all there is to it! Create WordPress menu links to specific page parts by utilizing anchors. This may be a really useful method of orienting your site’s visitors, so give it a shot. There have been 16 responses.

Creating Drop-Down Menus in WordPress

In web design, drop-down menus, also known as nested menus, are navigation menus that contain both parent and child menu items. The parent item will display first, and then all of the child items will appear beneath it in a sub-menu when you move your cursor over it. A submenu may be created by dragging an item below the parent item and then dragging it slightly to the right to the right. We’ve accomplished this by including three sub-items beneath the heading ‘Services’ in our menu: Here’s a screenshot of the sub-menu as it appears on the site: You may even create many levels of dropdown menus, allowing your sub menu to have its own sub menu.

‘Logo Design’ (which is a child item of ‘Services’) contains two child items of its own, as can be seen in the following illustration.

How to quickly and easily make WordPress links using text hyperlinks

There are a variety of reasons why you would wish to include customized links in your WordPressmenu. In this case, the most apparent options are links to social media profiles or other websites. Here’s how you go about it.

Adding custom links to a WordPress menu

You’ll find it in the ‘Appearance’ section of your WordPressadmin area, which is located at the bottom of the left-hand sidebar. Hover your cursor over it, and then click on the ‘Menus’ item in the fly-out menu. This will bring up the Menus screen, which is seen in the image below.

  • Click ‘Select’ in the drop-down list next to ‘Select a menu to edit’ at the top of the Menus page to select the menu to which you want to add a custom link. Custom Links can be created by selecting that heading from among the menu options that display below: In the URL text area, type or paste the URL you want to use. If you want to include a link text, type in the word or words that will display as your custom menu link when your readers browse to and look at the main menu of your website. When you click on the ‘Add to Menu’ button, your new custom link will be placed to the bottom of your selected menu in the Menu Structure module, which is located to the right of the Menu screen. In order to move your new custom menu link to a different location inside your menu, click on it and drag it up to the location you choose. Always remember that your new custom link may be used as a main or sub-menu link in the WordPress menu, just like any other link in the menu. Using your mouse, move it to the desired location.

This screenshot with annotations should help to clarify things.

Don’t forget to Save your updated menu!

Otherwise, your changes will not be saved or published to your website if you do not click on the ‘Save Menu’ button before departing the Menu screen.

Making a One Page Navigation Menu in WordPress

In today’s world, one-page websites appear to be all the rage. The fundamental concept is to have a “landing page” that is a full-screen slideshow — that is, the slideshow takes up the whole browser window – and then the rest of the website content can be accessed by scrolling down the page, which contains sections for various themes that can be clicked on. On our Vellum demo website, we have a handful of examples of one-page websites to show you: Demonstration of a resort page and a wedding page Most newcomers to website building are unfamiliar with the process of making a menu item navigate to a certain portion of the same page when it is selected from the menu.

This is a basic HTML issue, and the approach has been around since the early days of the internet, so it is nothing new.

If you were to normaly click on a menu item, you would be sent right to the proper portion of the website in a second, but if you blink, you would miss it.

Consequently, this article is devoted to this topic: How to utilize HTML in our menu and page content to cause menu items to scroll to the correct part on the same page while they are in the same menu.

The first step is to clearly indicate where each part begins in our article. When we want to signal the beginning of a section, we can utilize one of three main techniques:

“section one” identifies the first section of the document.

  • An ID may be assigned to any HTML tag by including the anidattribute with it.

My Very First Section /h3 id=”section one” My Very First Section

  • This third approach is actually just another version of the technique above, but it is worth demonstrating the technique since the “empty div” is a fundamental tool in the trade.

div class=”section one” id=”section one” /div When we click on a menu item in our menu, the menu item will scroll to that section of the same page, which is exactly what the three ways demonstrated above do. It makes no difference which approach you choose; each has its own advantages as well as supplemental applications (a discussion of which is beyond the scope of this article). Make use of whichever strategy is most effective in your scenario. If we are creating our article material with the Visual Composer plugin, we can place a marker into our text by utilizing either a Text Block element or a Raw HTML element.

1. Prepare the content

PageAdd New allows you to create a new page with a title, and then insert a Text Block element into the content of the page. In the editor window, choose the Text tab, delete the dummy placeholder text, and then put in the following HTML code. section one is identified by the h3 tag. /h3 It is critical that you utilize the Text tab rather than the Visual tab when adding HTML to a Text Block element. With a single click of the Savebutton, our anchor and heading for our first block of material is complete.

  1. If we like, we may choose a column layout for the row and then fill it with any material we want.
  2. You may always go back and make changes later on if you want.
  3. If you haven’t already, publish the page to ensure that the work we have just completed is saved.
  4. Saving as you go is an excellent habit to develop.
  5. The second anchor row will use the ID section two, the third will use section three, and so on until the entire table is used as an anchor row.
  • Create a new row, and then insert a Text Block into that row. Copy and paste the HTML code for the anchor
  • The row will be saved, and the article will be saved, and a row will be added. Configure the column layout
  • Fill in the blanks with some material in that row. Keep the row saved
  • Keep the article on your computer

As soon as we have finished writing our article content, we need to make sure that we have designated this post as our static home page.

2. Set the home page

Make a note of the page we just made in theFront page drop-down option in theSettingsReading section. (There is no need to create a page for postings.) Keep in mind to click theSave Changesbutton after you’re finished to save your changes. We may now proceed to the creation of the menu items that will link to the various areas of our website.

3. Prepare the menu

Navigate to the AppearanceMenu and select thecreate a new menulink option. After you’ve given the new menu a distinctive name, click theCreate Menubutton. A Links panel should be visible on the left-hand side of the screen. It may not be seen until you allow theLinksoption under “Show on screen” in the Screen Options menu (top right). Open the Links panel, and in the URLinput box, delete whatever that is currently there, and then paste in the following. section one In ourh3 id=”section one”HTML, that URL points to the ID in ourh3.

  • “First part” should be entered in the Link Text entry box.
  • In order to complete this menu item, click theAdd to Menubutton.
  • Please remember to save the menu as you go, and to save the menu one last time when you are completed.
  • However, we need to inform WordPress that this is our major menu, so at the bottom of the menu, beneath the “Menu Settings” header, activate theTheme locationsoption to make our menu the primary menu, as seen in the screenshot below.

Don’t forget to click on the Save Menu button once more when you’ve finished. And with that, we’re done for the day. However, there is one more thing that we must bear in mind at all times.

Can we do this on a multi-page website?

We may still utilize this strategy on the main page of a multi-page website, but in order to continue to benefit from the slow scroll effect on all other pages other than the home page, we must develop a second menu with slightly different URLs to use on all other pages except the home page. Create a new menu and include all of the same menu items as previously, with the exception of the URLs, which should now have a forward slash before the hash. As an illustration./section one As a result, this second menu is a carbon copy of the original menu, with the exception that each URL begins with a forward slash (/).

Scroll down to the bottom of that settings page and, beneath the “Main Menu” header, change theNavigation Menuoption to refer to the menu with the hash URLs as the navigation menu.

Set theNavigation Menuoption to “reference the menu with the slash-hash URLs” to have the menu appear in the navigation menu.

And with that, we’re officially finished.

How to Remove Link from a Menu Item in WordPress

Originally published on March 27th, 2017. This is a simple yet effective WordPress repair. Clients frequently inquire as to whether menu links that include sub-menus should be treated as separate pages, or if they should just be a ‘hover’ link that shows the drop-down menu beneath it. In reality, the answer is based on the structure of your website and the information you have available for it, but it is more often than not advantageous to erase the page altogether and merely utilize it to expose the sub-menu instead.

If you’re not sure what I mean, try it yourself.

Having visitors who are perplexed and frequently click something that does not truly connect somewhere is the last thing you want.

It’s actually rather straightforward, and only requires a handful of steps to complete.

This may be accomplished by logging into your WordPress admin and then hovering over ‘Appearance’ and selecting ‘Menus.’ Select the appropriate menu option and then, on the left, select ‘Custom Links.’ In this section, insert the hash symbol () as the URL — there is no need to include thepreface, so just leave it out of the equation entirely.

When you’re finished, click ‘Add to Menu’ and drag the new item into position.

Select ‘Save Menu’ from the drop-down menu.

Even if the link doesn’t work, you’ll see that your new menu item still appears in the browser’s links section, even though it doesn’t actually connect to anything.

It’s as simple as clicking a button to activate the program once it’s been installed. Your gleaming new menu item is nothing more than plain old text that, when hovered over, displays the sub-menu.
